IS THE WORLD DOOMED OR JUST CAPITALISM?
Max Hastings, one of my favourite military historians tells a morality
tale for today in the Guardian today. He tells of visiting New York in
1944-45 to research a book and meeting an enchanting old lady, Edith Gabor,
who had survived several Nazi death camps.. After spending three hours
listening to her story, he stood on the pavement outside her apartment
waiting for a taxi. The cab did not come. He became at first impatient and
then emotional. The little Hungarian Jewish octogenarian came and stood
beside him on the sidewalk. She laughed heartily and said, ‘Relax. Its not
important. When you’ve been in a death camp you see that [missing a cab and]
an aeroplane really doesn’t matter very much’.
Hastings then talks of the current western financial crisis makes
President Bush’s ‘war on terror’ seem footling and however serious the slump
it does not threaten systematic disaster for western societies. If we
measure today’s woes with those of former eras, particularly 1939-45 when we
went from being one of the richest nations on earth to one of the poorest we
should be able to muster enough courage to endure the credit crunch. Western
capitalism is suffering a richly deserved shock to its hubris [insolent
pride for those who, like me, do not know the meaning of hubris] but if the
worst that can happen is that we lose a little money, then it ill becomes us
to make too much of it.
Certainly a reassuring and comforting thought even though Bush and
Gordon Brown and his cabinet continue their mass murder of innocent
civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
No, there is a real fear that what CND, Liberty and Searchlight
International most fear will come about and that the maniacs who believe in
nuclear weapons have it in their power to physically destroy the world. We
had an example of this quoted in the BLOG a couple of nights ago of a
Russian envoy to Nato who did not report that missiles had actually been
discharged and so saved us from extinction. The man was being disciplined,
but most of us would be thankful, because we are still alive. While nuclear
weapons exist there will always be maniacs ready to use them and,
unfortunately these include our Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and some of
his cabinet.

THE VIEWS OF JOSEPH STIGLITZ ON BUSH AND THE HYPOCRISY OF CAPITALISM.
The professor of Columbia University and recipient of the 2001 Noble
Prize in Economics tells how the present economic crisis is the result of
dishonesty on the part of financial institutions and incompetence on the
part of policymakers. Complex transactions were designed to move risk and
disguise the sliding value of assets. In this game there are winners and
losers. Most economists believe that we have the know how to avoid a
catastrophe on the 1929 level, but it is difficult to have faith in the US
government that oversaw the utter mismanagement of the war in Iraq and the
response to Hurricane Katrina. If any administration can turn this crisis
into another depression it is the Bush administration. Some of America’s
brightest and best were devoting their talents to getting around standards
and regulations designed to ensure the efficiency of the economy and safety
of the banking system. Unfortunately they were too successful and we are
all - homeowners, workers, investors, taxpayers - paying the price.

MICHAEL MOORE ON THE FINANCIAL CRISIS - THE RICH ARE STAGING A COUP.
The biggest robbery in the history of the US is now taking place right
now, though no guns are being used. After stealing a half trillion dollars
to line the pockets of their war-profiteering backers for the last five
years ; after lining the pockets of their follow oilmen to the tune of one
hundred billion dollars in the last two years, Bush and his cronies, who
must soon vacate the White House are looting the US Treasury of every dollar
they can grab. They are swiping as much of the silverware as they can on
their way out of the door. They are up to their old tricks of creating fear
and confusion in order to keep themselves and the upper one percent filthy
rich. Even as policy makers worked on details of a $700 billion bail out of
the financial industry they began looking ways to profit from it. Financial
firms were lobbying to have all manner of troubled investments covered, not
just those relating to mortgages. At the same time investment firms were
jockeying to oversee all the assets that the Treasury plans to take off the
books of financial institutions, a role that could earn them hundreds of
millions of dollars a year in fees. Even Treasury Secretary Poulson admitted
that he didn’t know the exact amount needed, he just picked the $700
billion out of his head.
And yet they are screeching that the end is near. Panic! The Great
Depression! Bird flu! Killer bees! The sky is falling in . Falling for who?
Nothing in this bailout package will lower the price of the gas you put in
your car. Nothing in the bill will protect you from losing your home.
Nothing in the bill will give you health insurance. [Health insurance, Mike?
Why are you bringing thus up?] It has everything to do with health. The
number one cause of bankruptcy is Health bills. If we had universal health
coverage this mortgage crisis might never have happened.
The bailout’s mission is to protect the obscene amount of wealth
accumulated in the last eight years. Its to ensure that the yachts and
mansions of the minority who control America are protected , while the
rest of America suffer and pay the bills. Let the rich suffer for once. We
are spending 400 million dollars a day on the war in Iraq. Let them end the
war immediately and save us another half trillion dollars. The failure of
the Democratic Party is of a catastrophic nature. They handed a stolen
election to Bush. They gave him the votes to invade a sovereign country.
Once they took over Congress in 2007 they refused to pull the plug on the
war in Iraq and they have now been cowered into supporting this crime of the
century. If we let them get away with this imagine how hard it will be to
get things done when President Obama is President. These Democrats are only
as strong as the backbone we give them. CALL CONGRESS NOW.

WHAT SORT OF DAY WAS IT IN BRITAIN?
It was one of the worst days in financial history, it seems. Mortgage
lending dived to ?143 million during August down 95% on the previous month.
It was the lowest figure ever recorded and compared with just under
?3billion in July..
David Cameron brought his Tory circus to Birmingham for the Party
Conference.where in scarcely contained glee they thought of the days in 2010
when they would rule the roost. Unfortunately, 2010 is a long way away and
David Cameron supports the war in Iraq and refuses to perform his democratic
duty of replying to me. So it could be that Cameron will end up in the
same cell as Gordon Brown as they are tried for Crimes against Humanity.
And this could conceivably happen to Richard Carr who still shows no
sign of wanting to answer my questions as to who runs and controls
Wolverhampton.

WOLVERHAMPTON - SPORTING AND BUSINESS CAPITAL OF BRITAIN?
Wolves have been the most important football club in Britain on a
number
of occasions in their long history. But are they about to enter the most
important part of their history starting at the relatively lowly position of
the Championship, (Second Division to the uninitiated.)? Wolves have now won
more matches than any other team in Britain. They have also scored more
goals than any other team in Britain and in the Express and Star today there
is a picture of a smiling Sir Jack Hayward former owner of Wolves and super
patriot who will have nothing but British goods on his premises and an
equally happy Steve Morgan, the businessman who now owns Wolves, knowing
that Sir Jack retains a seat on the board of directors and has a veto to
ensure that Wolves are never sold to foreigners and share with Arsenal the
determination to be British owned and locally controlled. This at the time
when the worst
economic crisis to hit the world since 1929 threatens to bankrupt those
clubs who have surrendered their future to the Moneybags of this world.
Teams which live within their financial limits will survive, whereas those
who think success can only be bought with cash will perish. And Steve Morgan
represents the sort of business man who is a credit to the City by thinking
in the same way as Sir Jack..

MORE PIE IN THE SKY.
Last night we featured Nigel Hastilow’s classic critique of the attempt
to swallow up Wolverhampton into a Greater Birmingham , and the number of
competing ‘ regenerating’ bodies attempting to bring prosperity back to
Wolverhampton. Mind you, the town would not have needed regenerating if
politicians had not sold our existing basic industries of coal and steel to
foreigners under Thatcherite beliefs that ‘free trade’ would serve us best,
and we are now once again having to insist that what now remains of our
industries should be protected.
But here is what we are presented with today. A ?37.5 million hotel and
business park overlooking the M45 in Wolverhampton within the next year. Two
office blocks planned for the site would hold 4 00 workers and the 63
bedroom hotel would create 30 jobs. Office blocks we have in plenty and the
hotels we have are probably no better occupied than London where the rate
is 85%. But just listen to the list of the firms involved in these new
proposals : Coventry based family business ASK is in detailed talks with an
undisclosed mid-range hotel chain to take on the construction. The Treetops
development would be built at Stafford Road’s junction with Junction 2 of
the M54. A planning application has been lodged. Wolverhampton City Council
planners are expected to debate the scheme on December 2. David Kay,
managing director of ASK said planning permission was secured for the hotel
two years ago. We will look at starting work as soon as permission for the
whole scheme is granted and it would take around eight months to build the
hotel. Would anyone invest a penny of their own money on such grandiose
schemes on such flimsy grounds?
Will the council grant permission? Will the two undisclosed mid -range
hotel chains have the money to take on the scheme by then? And will the
office and hotel if built be required, or will it be a white elephant.

CULTURE IN WOLVERHAMPTON.
The reference given to me by Don Rend my distant relation and
pioneering New Jazz saxophonist and Jehovah’s Witness has proved sound and I
have had about 20 minutes of splendid jazz. Try it for yourself on Tube
Lee Gibson. I hope the jazzes at Wolverhampton Grammar School will
appreciate it and I shall pass the reference on to my good friend Dr.Bernard
Trafford late of WAGS but now head of The Royal Grammar School at
Newcastle-on-Tyne. Jazz flourishes at Ballston and Albright and I wonder how
classical music is doing with the Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestra a
friendly and enthusiastic amateur orchestra that I’m pleased to give a plug
to which meets every Thursday evening in term time and performs three or
four times a year at local venues.

THE REPROBATES WHO FAIL TO TALK TO ME.
None of these have shown any indication to reply to me over the week
end , so all of them must be labelled rascals and reprobates for not
attending to their statutory duty to reply to correspondence addressed to
them.. So, Ill just give the names of some of them once again to remind them
that I’m not going away. The include Gordon Brown and his Cabinet of war
criminals, Mark Thompson and Lord Grade heads of the BBC and ITV. Paxman,
Marr, Wark, Kearney and Jon Snow those lords of creation who we are all
dependent on for questioning Gordon Brown and his cabinet on the war in
Iraq. Sir Trevor Phillips chair of Commission for Equality and Human
Rights who refuses to tell us whether he is for or against the war in Iraq,
the head of the learning and Skills Council who closed the first
Multicultural College in Britain at Bilston and Richard Carr the local city
chief executive who refuses to let us know who runs and controls
Wolverhampton . They will constantly be pricked with the knowledge that
their sins will surely find them out.

MAYORS AGAINST THE WAR IN IRAQ - WILL CHRISTINE MILLS JOIN IN?
When the war in Iraq began in 2003 only a minority of people in the
USA opposed it. But now a majority of people oppose it and this is reflected
in the number of towns and cities and their mayors who oppose it. This now
numbers 300 as well as hundreds of
mayors in other parts of the world. So I have today written to the Mayor of
Wolverhampton, Christine Mills, asking if she will add her name to the list.
The
position of Wolverhampton is unique A substantial Labour majority changed
to a hung council on May 1 with the Tories the largest party but the balance
of
power was held by five Lib-Dems. and it is possible to envisage a coalition
of Tories who are opposed the war, the Lib-Dems who have opposed the war
from the beginning and Labour councillors opposed to the war of which we
know for certain only one, Frank Docherty.
If this occurred Wolverhampton would be the only local authority
against the war and our example might well become infectious and other local
authorities become anti-war. The example could also spread to the government
and Gordon Brown oppose the war which if he did he would immediately become
the most important politician in Britain and end his career a national hero,
instead of a war criminal sentenced by the Court of Human Rights for Crimes
against Humanity. So much depends on Christine Mills.

NIGEL HASTILOW ON THE ATTEMPT TO SWALLOW UP THE BLACK COUNTRY INTO A GREATER
BIRMINGHAM.
Yet another attempt is being made to create a Greater Birmingham. Its a
local government quango which doesn’t exist, has never been voted for, has
no money or power but does have an expensive chief executive. At the moment
this phantom authority is called the Birmingham, Coventry, and Black Country
City Authority. The City Region consists of the leaders of Birmingham,
Coventry, Dudley Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton plus the West Midlands
Regional Assembly, the West Midlands Local Government Association, the
Regional Development Agency, the Learning and Skills Council and Job Centre
Plus. Naturally, they want money. According to the West Midlands ‘No’
Campaign we’re already paying ?370,,000 for frontman Simon Murphy, the
former Labour-Euro MP and his office. But this is doomed to fail unless they
can call their region Greater Birmingham. Who says so? No less an
organisation than The Centre for Cities an offshoot of the Institute of
Pulic Policy Research. Nigel is just beginning to wind himself up. Why we
need yet another layer of faceless, report-writing, form-filling,
box-ticking, fund-demanding, interfering, work-making, pen-pushing,
over-paid meddlers I do not know. What difference a City Region can make in
a credit crunch and global financial melt-down is hard to fathom. Even at
the best of times do they think that a potential investor from Germany,
America, India or Japan will avoid the West Midlands just because we cannot
agree on a name for our ‘city region?’ Why not create a Central England
City region at least it is in the middle of the country with good
communication links, Hastilow ends.
Why not indeed, but what about poor Mr.Stephen Catchpole who was so
proud to have been appointed chief regenerator of Wolverhampton with a
supposed ?1bn cash injection to create 30,00 jobs over the next 20 years. Or
the Wolverhampton Development Company responsible for the development of
Summer Row which has come to a halt because the cash has run out. Or the two
regeneration companies who
discovered that if one of them was to fulfil their quota the other one would
not be able to, so they went to court and both of them were prevented from
doing anything, or the key project of Wolverhampton Low Level Station now
deserted and going to wrack and ruin, like the Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary
building in Compton Road. And there were other such projects.
It was for these reasons that I asked Richard Carr to explain to me and
the council tax payers who ruled and ran Wolverhampton. But he, in
his arrogance has failed in his statutory duty to reply to me. And the
matter
is now in the hands of the disciplinary committee of the council.

All’s well that ends well and today we’ve wrapped up this matter. Don

WARNING - DANGEROUS CRIMINALS AT LARGE IN WOLVERHAMPTON AND ELSEWHERE.
These are the people posing as the chief executive of Wolverhampton,
Richard Carr
chair of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, Trevor Phillips,
various chiefs of so-called regeneration bodies, heads of Learning and
Skills Councils, heads of the BBC and ITV and newsreaders Paxman, Marr,
Wark, Kearney and Jon Snow.
Each of these fail to carry out their statutory duty to reply to
correspondence addressed to them and thus strip us of our democratic rights
and reduce Britain to a dictatorship. If you know of their whereabouts they
should be reported to the Court of Human Rights because in the case of
Gordon Brown and his cabinet they could be responsible for the nuclear
destruction of the world and are therefore guilty of Crimes against
Humanity.

HOW THE WORLD WAS NEARLY DESTROYED.
We do not always realise how near we are to Armageddon, so the tale of
the Russian envoy to NATO is a reminder. He failed to report to Moscow the
fact that US missiles had actually been launched. If he had, Russia would
have launched retaliaratery bombs and World War Three would have started.
This man is now being disciplined, but the majority of us would feel warm
sympathy to the man whose dereliction of duty means that most of us are
still alive.

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE…….
Michael Walker that most prolific of Marxist historians sent me this
gem yesterday. Douglas Frank Springhall 25 of Alton Rd . Richmond and
Robert William Robson 29 clerk of Rothwell St. Camden were charged at Bow
Street Police Court Saturday with being in possession without authority or
excuse of documents which would be a contravention of the Emergency
Regulations Act. They were arrested entering the Young Communist League
headquarters Great Ormond St. They had in their possession a number of
documents containing references to the troops. One roneoed leaflet headed
‘Young Striker’ contained phrases Youth in Action. Troops Act.. In another
sheet it was stated The West Ham Council of Action is going strong and has
the local movement well in hand. Mounted soldiers have been seen riding
about the Street.
Robson was given six weeks and Springhall two months with hard labour
and each got ?100 fine. From the Times May 10 1926.
We have been warned . There are plenty of Home Office thugs with similar
ideas for all of us opposed to the war in Iraq.

BUSH FINDS A SECOND WAY OF DESTROYING MANKIND.
Bush’s regime is ending with both a bang and a whimper. The most
appalling regime in the history of mankind is the verdict. The US economy is
on the brink of disaster with crisis talk over a 700 billion dollar bailout
which has ended in farce and shows no sign of abating. It is time to think
of the only possible alternative - Socialism

THE BATTLE OF TETTENHALL - AGAIN.
The main source for the Battle of Tettenham is the Anglo-Saxon
Chronicle. There are a number of separate chronicles within the main
chronicle. The most specific is the Worcester Chronicle which states,
‘AD910 in this year English and Danes fought at Tettenhall…’ There has
risen a difference of opinions as to whether the battle was fought there or
at Wednesfield, based on the philological fact that there are only two towns
named after the Saxon god of war Woden. They are Wednesfield and
Wednesbury. So there has grown up the idea that the only way to decide
between the two is to bring the proponents of the two sides two sides together to
test their theories by investigation and excavation if necessary to find
remains of bodies, or military equipment and that this should be done by our
historical societies and our teachers and pupils in our schools. This being
one of the ways through which we determine whether our schools’ history
syllabuses are ‘fit for purpose’.
The most formidable proponent of Wednesfield is the man who has
recently written the definitive book on Staffordshire place names, Dr.
David Horowitz. He has poured scorn on the idea that the matter could be tested in the way we propose and wants nothing to do with the matter.
However, those favouring a site in Tettenhall have chosen Henwood Road where
there is a steep slope at the back of my house where Anglo-Saxons could have
started from a ridge at Tettenhall Heights, have chased the Vikings down to
Smestow Brook where they fled with the ill-gotten gains to the Severn and
hence to Scandinavia. There are elements of wishful thinking in this
scenario, although it does seem to be the only logical site within
Tettenhall. So, we have enlisted the aid of Tony Robinson’s Time Team and after several months of trying to contact them we have had a postcard from them stating the following. They thank me for contacting them and say that their researchers will consider every site that they are advised of and if they decide to investigate our site we shall hear from them later in the year.
I have spent a large part of today informing our local historical
societies of this development for whether the Time Team joins us or not this will still be the second most important battle against foreign invaders
until the Battle of Hastings and if we are to be credible as the City of
Culture, Education, Sport aand Business in Britain on 2009 the Battle of
Tettenhall will play a significant part in it.

DON RENDELL AND JAZZ AND JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES IN WOLVERHAMPTON.
The fact that my distant relation who is both a jazz innovator and now has produced some of his memoirs is interesting and important and has led me to spend some of the day informing those who are interested in popular culture of these events which will eventually find them on my BLOG if Don agrees. But I still haven’t heard from the Asian Jehovah’s Witness who came
to my door quite frequently and I was pleased to see. But I’ve even
forgotten his name now. I must wait for him to come again.
In its place we have an excellent piece by Dave Holmes on Earl Palmer the New Orleans born black drummer who was Dave’s hero since his schooldays. He learned his craft as a child, served his country in the Second World War,
taking time to smuggle ammunition to his black soldier friends to shoot back
at their white comrades who were shooting at them as well as the official
enemy. Dave has learned that Earl has just died. A legend in his own time.
The best of the top three rock and roll innovators from the early 1950s,
musically academic, hot on the jazz scene while never being short of an
expletive or two to add dynamics to his conversation. Thanks for that little cameo, Dave.

LABOUR HISTORY.
I’m back to my favourite pastime - Working Class history. Graham
Stevenson asks me if I have any information on Miles Carpenter. He was a 1930s-50s working class poet educated at Birkbeck. Wrote for the Communist League journal, ‘Alive’. A friend of Edith Sitwell. Involved in the Spanish Civil War in some way. Worked at the famous Archer’s bookshop in Parton St. Published several books of poetry and a book which is possibly
autobiographical, ‘A Rebel in the 1930s’.
This letter was addressed to Graham Stevenson by John Schad , Professor
of Modern Literature at the
University of Lancaster. Sorry, John, I can add nothing, but it can only
help by appearing on the BLOG and I hope it will jog memories and those who do know you can either write to John direct or to me.

HOW CAN BROWN RECOVER HIS POPULARITY.
This it seems is the question of the day. Discussed at length in today’s
Any Questions, also the following programme, The Week. And nobody knows the
answer to the question which is so simple. He has only to end the war in
Iraq, bring the troops home, cease the slaughter of innocent people and he will be the most popular politician in Britain and end his life a hero,
instead of a war criminal.
But there are none so blind as those who don’t want to see.

Jenkins has hit the ball on the head. No one else has the courage or
gumption to challenge Brown on his wars. Jon Snow interviewed Brown to
night. Did he challenge him on the war in Iraq? If he did I didn’t hear it.
We are being deprived of our democratic rights to know the truth. We are
being led by a dictator and those responsible for letting us know the truth,
the whole truth and nothing but the truth are in conspiracy with Brown and
his entire cabinet to deprive us of the truth. Tonight it was Paxman
bellowing away at the secretary of the Labour Party. He also said nothing
about the war in Iraq. But we shall beat them yet.

WOLVERHAMPTON AND ITS CONNECTION WITH JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES AND JAZZ.
My distant relation Don Rendell is one of the pioneers of New Jazz in
the 1950s. He is also a Jehovah’s Witness and I have had contact with an
Islamic branch of the Witnesses. This is unusual enough, particularly as we
are investigating Islamophobia in Wolverhampton, so it is important to keep
in touch with our Asian Witness. I have only his email address so I cannot
write or phone him. Can anyone locate him for me?

THE BATTLE OF TETTENHALL.
I have had a reply from Tony Robinson’s Time Team whose programme is
made by Videotext Communications Ltd. They thank me for contacting them with
a site suggestion and say that their researchers consider all material they
receive and if they decide to pursue our site we will hear from them later
in the year. There is at the bottom of the card a written note by Jim Mower
stating that battlefields do not often make good sites for them. But whether
they take it up or not it remains the second most important battle fought on
English soil after the Battle Of Hastings. So we shall have to do something
about it even if Time Team turn us down.

THE NEW WARSAW PACT.
Poland and the Baltic States have formed an informal alliance that is
anti-Russian and pro-US. This is from an article today in the Guardian by
Gyula Hegyi a Hungarian socialist member of the European Parliament. I have
long been in touch with Gyula . I was critical of the Hungarian uprising in
1956 having been at the 1949 World Youth Festival in Budapest and noted how
popular the regime was. I thought the uprising was probably the work of the
pre-war fascist in Hungary supported by the US. I had in November 2005 been
appproached by a scholar who had discovered in the newly opened archives the
details of all those who had attended the 1949 World Youth Festival in
Budapest and he had sent them all a questionnaire asking what they then
thought of Hungary. His name was Gyula Virag and he was studying for an PhD
and considered himself an independent scholar. But today it is clear that
their are fascist influences at work probably both pre-war and of more
recent vintage. I shall renew my correspondence with the Hungarians and
Poles and Czechs. But not tonight.

DO NOT DARE TO MENTION THE WAR IN IRAQ IN FRONT OF GORDON BROWN
I’ve said it often enough, it is on the front of every one of my 580
BLOGS, . the only way to revive the corpse of this New Labour monstrosity
would be to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, bring our troops home and
stop the slaughter of Iraqi and Afghan civilians. Yet Brown and all of his
squabbling cabinet have responsibility for these wars, have financed them
and refuse to see that Bush, Blair and Brown are the terrorists and if the
wars were ended terrorism would virtually cease overnight.
Now Brown has made his speech to the Labour Party Conference and said
nothing about the war in Iraq. Millions of words, cascades of promises to
listen and learn, but not a single word on Iraq. And Labour MPs and media
barons such as Paxman and Jon Snow seem joined in a conspiracy to deceive,
each of them interviewing Brown and neither raising the issue of Iraq. The
conspiracy to avoid even the broadest of issues of Foreign Policy in the run
up to this Labour Party Conference began for me on Thursday when David
Dimblebury’s ‘Any Questions’ returned to the BBC and neither he, nor the
speakers, nor the audience uttered a word on Iraq. Then today old has
been’s like Mandelsohn, Blunkett, Prescott and others have been interviewed
yet not a word has been said about the war. This is a complete denial of
civil rights for the majority of the population who are opposed to the war
and makes Britain a dictatorship, as bad as that of Mugabe and other
dictatorships we claim to deplore. This cannot continue and when Brown is
inevitably brought before the Court of Human Rights at the Hague for Crimes
against Humanity all those who have been a party to these crimes will find
themselves like the Nazi war criminals at the Nuremberg
trials after World War II called to account.

STOP THE WAR COALITION.
Fortunately not all MPs and journalists and activists are ninnies who
gave Brown a standing ovation today. The Stop the War Newsletter No. 1058
of 23 September 2008 reports on the anti-War demonstration at the Labour
Party Conference . Thousands of activists marched through Manchester and
delivered a letter to Brown demanding the withdrawal of all British troops
from the catastrophic and unwinnanle wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The
parallel Convention that will meet while the phoney New Labour set up sits
and supports the carnage which these war criminals create. Activities are
being planned for the autumn which assumes that Brown is not stopped by a
Citizen’s Arrest , which it now seems that George Galloway and Ken
Purchase will sit idly by and twiddle their thumbs. It looks therefore as if
other
anti-war MPs such as Jon Cruddas, Dianne Abbott and other MPS of the
Socialist Campaign group will have to act to bring the wars to an end NOW.
Another event supported by Stop the War will be an international
anti-Nato demonstration in Strasbourg next April (for which funds are
needed and also recruits) as well as anti-war campaigns at army bases.

AL JAZEERA ENGLISH.
The anti-war campaign is much wider than we have described. CND,
Liberty and others fight the maniacs who actually make nuclear bombs in
England and
risk the destruction of the world. As we have said so often, Anyone who
believes that an island floating on coal and surrounded by water needs
nuclear power, needs his/her head examined. Organisations such as
Industrial Intelligence have noted the fact that the capitalist press is
owned by the rich and its monopoly is now endorsed by what they have
identified as the Commentariat dominated by all-powerful commentators such
as Paxman, Marr, Kearney and Jon Snow and we have no other source of news.
This reactionary coalition is now challenged by Al Jazeera English which can
reach the whole English speaking world and challenges BBC World News once a
beacon of hope for those occupied by Nazis but for many years now the voice
of reaction, and also the US Neo-Con organisations such as Fox News and
Rupert Murdoch. David Frost now broadcasts at 7pm every Friday. But there
seems no way of British television sets being able to reach Al Jazeera wave
lengths. Are we being deliberately deprived of alternative television?
Topics such as these are up for discussion and will be aired on this BLOG.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS.
Last night we wrote about Wolves being an important factor, together
with Arsenal in ensuring that the team is British owned and locally
controlled. Today Wolves step out of the shadow of Arsenal into their
rightful place as top team as it is revealed that they have more points and
have scored more goals than any other team in the country. Nor is it for Wolves their
only claim to fame on this day. Former Wolves stars, Don Goodman and Robbie
Denison presented a ?32,000 minibus to Penn Hall Special School. Even better
the event was arranged by the Ladies’ Taverners whose organiser and chair is
Rachael Heyhoe Flint, first woman cricket captain of England and a director
of Wolves FC whose sole function is to raise money for charity.

EDUCATION IN WOLVERHAMPTON.
I reported the other day that I had been asked to see if I could find
out about educational standards of Muslim students this year as the Muslims
themselves feel themselves discriminated against and fear that this must
show up in their examination results. Before the Wolverhampton Race Equality
Council was foolishly closed by Sir Trevor Phillips (himself charged with
racism as he refuses to answer whether or no he supports the war in Iraq)) I
was in charge of statistics at WREC and we always knew what the local
position was. So my first step has been to contact the Equal Opportunities
Officer at Wolverhampton University to see whether she can provide such
figures. If she can, it must follow that she has a complete breakdown of
ethnic minority figures, including African-Caribbeans which on a national
scale are said to be faring badly, although that is not the point. We want
to know how WOLVERHAMPTON ethnics are faring. And come to that, we want to
know how white students are performing..
If we can get figures for University students, our next task will be to
have the results of our school children which have been announced in July
but whose final results were withheld by the Department of Education and the
Learning and Skills Council until October. or even later. This is not the
way to deal with our children and I shall be following up the lag in GCSE
and O level results in the coming week and we have a team including Sehdev
Bismal once in charge of ethnic minority development in Wolverhampton,
Simeon Green, the most fearless of critics of discrimination against
Afro-Cab students and others will no doubt join us if they see that
discrimination is being tackled seriously.

MICHAEL MOORE’S SOLUTION TO THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY PROBLEM.
Michael’s contribution is to have made a film called SLACKER UPRISING
and what he proposes to do with it is to give it away. It chronicles the 62
city tour he did leading up to the 2004 elections. It was electrifying then,
as it is now, to see who were then ready for The Uprising - and who this
year are making it happen. This is his concert film tribute to the young
people who are going to save America from four more years of Republican
rule.
It is Michael’s way of saying Thank You to all the young people who have
come to his films over the 20 years that he’s been a film maker. Apparently
no one has ever given a film away before and he wants people to use the film
in any way they can to help with the 2008 election. The pictures shown on
this email are indeed inspiring of the hundreds of thousands of young
people participating in The Uprising, but the film can only be shown in the
USA and Canada.
He never once mentions Barak Obama. What will win the election is The
Uprising which will effect the fundamental change which Obama originally
promised but once he reneged to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan he
will not be able to deliver. Show it in your local theater,your high school
classroom, your church, union hall or community center. You can have your
friends and neighbours over to the house for a public viewing. You can
broadcast it on TV, on cable access, on regular channels or on the web . It
is completely free - I do not want to see a dime from this. And if you like
you can charge for admission or ask for a donation if it’s to raise money
for a candidate, a voter drive or for any non-profit or educational purpose.
In other words - its yours.
Such is Michael Moore’s contribution to the election and his approach
might well do the trick.

KEEP OUR FOOTBALL TEAMS BRITISH OWNED AND LOCALLY CONTROLLED.
As an Arsenal supporter for 75 years and a Wolves fan for 55 years, I
have recently joined the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust. It was my belief that
the Trust supported the view that Arsenal should remain an independent team
owned by Britons and run by the local community. Arsenal and Wolves have led
the way in supporting such patriotic attitudes and Wolves for instance have
been sold to a business man, but he is British and Sir Jack Hayward who
financed the team for many years and provided the money to build one of the
finest grounds in Britain, having decided that he no longer wishes to own
the club has determined that it should be owned by a business man, but a
British one and Sir Jack retains a seat on the Board and a veto to ensure
that it remains British.
Arsenal are in an even better position. Controlled for decades by
British merchant bankers, Hill-Samuel they have recently built a new
stadium financed from the sale of their old ground, Highbury. They therefore
have very little debt and have made a hefty profit this year which will
allow them, if they want to buy expensive players and pay them comparable
salaries to the teams who have sold themselves to the god of money; although
Arsenal do not appear to need it as they have a manager, Arsene Wenger, can
apparently bring out of his hat young teams every bit as good as the Money
Bags teams can purchase.
From this impregnable position certain foreign elements have been
allowed to purchase large amounts of Arsenal shares and while claiming that
they have no intention of taking over the club, have been allowed buy large
numbers of shares with the obvious intention of buying up the club, if they
are allowed to. The two most recent culprits have been an American sports
promoter Stan Kroenke and a Russian oligarch. Last night I said I would
contact the Arsenal Supporters Trust of which I am a life members and this I
have done. I want these foreigners share holdings to be limited and also
estimates of the cost of putting a glass roof over the Emirates stadium and
also a lessening of contacts with the Emirates who politically attach
themselves to George W. Bush and the ruling family of which support
barbarous practices such as stoning women to death and capital punishment.

THE CONVENTION OF THE LEFT.
This began on Saturday and continues through the week to shadow the
Labour Party Conference which has ceased to be a democratic body and will
tend to be a body of frightened men and women doing anything to halt the
slide of the Labour Party into oblivion. The latest poll shows that the rout
continues. Seats that have been Labour since the First World War will
fall. The poll suggests that the Tories will march into Downing Street with
a majority of 146 it has been exclusively revealed to the Observer . In the
critical marginal seats where elections are won and lost potential Labour
voters would be more likely to vote for it if Brown were replaced now, but
the ending of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would help even more. So
there it is, the wars are the key. At present David Cameron will never
become Prime Minister because the Lib-Dems who oppose the war would not
allow him to rule. But give the Tories a 146 majority and the Lib-Dem
influence is wiped out. So, the only remedy is for Brown to be hauled off by
a Citizen’s Arrest and locked up. Are you listening George Galloway and Ken
Purchase?

THE WEEKEND IN WOLVERHAMPTON.
Let’s take the news as reported in the local paper, the Express and
Star. Not all news is bad. That lumbering giant Capitalism has taken a turn
for the better. Shares have soared to record levels and Gordon Brown hopes
it will save his bacon. Some hope!
The first of the new breed of MG sports
cars will go on sale at Summit Garage, Lower Gornal following the arrival of
three updated models of the MG TF’s following the return of production at
Longbridge.
Bilston’s day was made by the long awaited re-opening of Bilston Town
Hall. Dignitaries of the town including the Mayor of Wolverhampton,
Christine Mills, attended the grand reopening after a decade of dereliction
and a revamp costing ?2.5 million. Christine Mills says that Bilston Town
Hall was significant not only as a Class II listed building, but also its
contribution to the Industrial Revolution and an actor dressed as John
Wilkinson spoke at the opening ceremony.
The previous day there had been brilliant ceremony to mark the
hundredth anniversary of St.Stephen’s Church
in Wolverhampton. Present at that celebration was Ed Dooley of the
Birmingham show and Carl Chinn who joined in lustily I am told in the hymns
and songs provided. Apparently the organ is of recent erection, is something
special and the young organist is a brilliant player.
But reality will not be denied and we find that W’ton based
housebuilder Bentley Homes is set to go into administration. having shed two
thirds of its 25 staff over the past two months.
Any tax to finance the
Metro extension which has now stalled is likely to bankrupt small
businesses, and the financing of the Low Level Station scheme is once again
calling for new ‘regenerators’ as the previous ones became bankrupt. The
same thing applies to the derelict Class II building of the former famed
Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary which was moved to the MRSA prone New Cross
Hospital by the rogue chief of that hospital who sold it to St.Modwen’s
Property developers who have taken over properties over much of the country
including Wolverhampton, Dudley and the Rover site at Longbridge where their
operations have ceased because they have run out of money and where today
the empty building in Compton Road has been broken into by thieves who have
left asbestos remnants outside in the street.

THE PROBLEMS OF DAVID DIMBLEBY
Returning to national matters , when Any Questions came to
Wolverhampton several months ago with David Miliband some one asked me why
no one asked a question about the war in Iraq and had the organisers of the
show ‘fixed’ both the questions and the audience. I took up the question up
and the only person prepared to answer the question was Peter Barron, the
producer of the show. To date however his reply has not been received and he
has moved his job to Google where we now have no contact with him.
This week the series has been renewed and it again transpires that
neither Dimbleby nor the panel which included Harriett Harman and a leading
Conservative, nor any member of the audience raised the question of the war.
So I have once again said that it seems odd that a so-called hard hitting
programme and an unbiased audience should carry on a discussion as to
whether Gordon Brown was a suitable person to lead Britain through to 2010
which he obviously intends to do unless he is stopped, and the only way to
stop the slaughter of children and civilians seems to be to have someone
make a Citizen’s Arrest and for Brown to be brought before the Court of
Human Rights charged with Crimes against Humanity.

GEORGE GALLOWAY AND KEN PURCHASE
The obvious way of removing Brown is for Parliament to be recalled, a
vote called for and Brown to be replaced by someone who opposes the wars in
Iraq and Afghanistan. But it is clear that the present Cabinet all support
the wars and ss share the guilt for the mass murders. If this is the case
the only other solution is for someone to make a Citizen’s Arrest and have
Brown locked up. Two of the most likely to accomplish this, in my view, is
George Galloway and Ken Purchase. But they show no sign of doing this and
will not even discuss with me whether they have a better plan. I favour
George Galloway because of his flamboyance and have reminded him that he
once denounced Blair in Shakespearean mode calling Blair a prime minister
whose title hangs ‘loose about him like a giant’s robe upon a dwarfish
thief’.’ I would love to see George make the coup de grace. Nobody has done
more to unhinge Brown nor expose the war in Iraq with such assurance and
aplomb. Come on George let’s be having you. Or Ken Purchase if you are not
prepared to do it.

ARSENAL AND ARSENE WENGER.
This evening my son William took me to his home and I witnessed one of
the finest football matches I have ever seen. Arsenal beat their jinx team
Bolton Wanderers 1-4. It is not merely that Arsenal’s football is
breathtaking, but Bolton matched Arsenal for long periods. As a result
Arsenal are top of the premiership and it seems clear that Arsene Wenger is
producing so many complete young footballers out of his hat, that there is
no reason to believe that they cannot this year win both the Premiership and
the Champion’s League. The only fly in the ointment to me is that the
Arsenal Supporter’s Trust and also the Arsenal FC board who have up to this
point been strong in rejecting foreign influence on the board and leading
the way forward to refuting the idea that Arsenal could be taken over by
foreign mercenaries are now compromising and accepting both US and Arab
finance. The latest Bulletin from the Arsenal Supporter’s Trust is most
disturbing and as a life member of the Trust I shall have strong words to
say about these developments.
